NEC robot development started with a technical orientation, but the design has come to be emphasized from the prototype planning and design stages.When speaking of design in general one tends to think only of determining such things as the color and shape, but NEC robot development is concerned with a broad area ranging from the initial concept stage of the designers to the interaction and production designs. In the intial concept stage a course was fixed for the overall functions and specifications.Interaction design means designing the interaction between people and the system to be easily understandable in the development of the software and hardware generally.In developing the robot, items are selected and adjusted to conform to such concepts as the personality of the robot and how it grows, or setting up the conditions for conversation between people and the robot, creating conversation scenarios, making the voice itself and effective sounds, etc. In product design to design the exterior of the robot, it is expressed so as to evoke feeling just by seeing the character and presence of the robot in conformance with the concept.

印象中，战斗型或是运动型的机器人，比较讨女生欢心，但根据最新一期的 Robot Life 中对500个日本涉谷女生所作的调查显示，可爱型的机器人才是她们的最爱。

    看看这个荣登冠军宝座的 PaPeRo，圆圆小小矮矮胖胖，综合讨人喜欢的 R2D2机器人以及 Fighting Nun Puppet 的特征（后者我是一点也看不出来啦！），难怪会风靡整个 CeBIT 会场。
